Sleet vs. Freezing Rain

Okay – so in light of the recent mixed bag of weather Austin’s been getting and with the ‘threat’ of a wintery mix tomorrow, I finally took the time to review what the difference is between sleet and freezing rain.. Yes, one might have thought that, with my northern/north-southern childhood, I might already have this meteorological knowledge; however, I assure you that I never quite took the time to really learn it… How easy is this?

Sleet – Comes down as frozen pellets

Freezing Rain – Comes down as rain and freezes on impact.

I have now done my part in sharing this most very important tidbid of weatherology (yes – it’s a word now!) with you.  Fingers crossed that the Sleet/Freezing Rain currently in the forecast changes over to snow… It’s a much prettier site anyway.
